NCSF: Our Conference Charity
The National Coalition for Sexual Freedom is Queer PlayCon's selected charity. NCSF advocates for consenting adults in the BDSM, swing, and polyamory communities. It is the only national organization working full-time to fight for kinky rights!
NCSF's work is already making a big difference for our community. Here is a list of some of the reasons we are proud to support NCSF.
- NCSF educates law-enforcement officials, care providers, and other authorities about BDSM, swing, and polyamory.
- NCSF's Consent Counts project is beginning to lay the groundwork for decriminalizing BDSM activities.
- NCSF has helped local BDSM communities stop selective enforcement of zoning and public indecency laws.
- NCSF's incident response program provides assistance for BDSM, swing and polyamory practitioners in crisis. NCSF has helped advocate for members of our community in child custody issues, divorce and domestic violence disputes, zoning problems, criminal complaints, and more.
- NCSF maintains a list of kink-aware professionals, including doctors, lawyers, and therapists.
- NCSF has been lobbying hard to convince the psychiatric profession to depathologize BDSM behavior. An expert committee has recommended that the new Diagnostic and Statistic Manual -- scheduled for publication in 2013 -- adopt the new language NCSF has been advocating in its Kinky is not a Diagnosis campaign. The proposed new rules draw a clear distinction between sexual sadism and sexual sadism disorder, defined as behavior which is nonconsensual, or which causes distress or suffering.
We -- Dominique and Opn, the conference co-producers -- are individual members of NCSF and we both belong to groups that are Coalition Partners of NCSF. By attending Queer PlayCon, you'll be contributing to NCSF and its mission! All of our proceeds after expenses will be donated to NCSF. We are also offering the bootblacking mini-event and the one-on-one presenter raffle as NCSF fundraisers.
